It may be necessary to dilate your eyes by applying dilation drops during your eye examination, testing, or treatment. Young children's eyes generally take longer to dilate than teenagers and adults. Please allow for the additional time in the office for the complete eye exam. It is our policy to perform a complete eye examination, including dilation, on all new patients. Dilation results in sensitivity to light and an inability to see well at close range or distance for a few hours to a few days. We provide free disposable sunglasses or dark inserts for your regular glasses. Patients should wear sunglasses and be cautious of walking and going up or down stairs until the dilation wears off. We recommend not driving or operating dangerous machinery immediately after your dilated eye exam or treatment. Please plan to have someone accompany you to drive you home or wait until your eyes return to normal so that you can drive safely. |

Depending on the nature of your visit, your doctor may determine that it is necessary to perform a refraction. Refraction is a valuable test that determines whether your blurred vision is caused by a medical condition or is a simple need for new spectacle or contact lens correction. Refractions are also performed upon request, particularly if you are aware you wish to get new glasses. It is best to inform us at the beginning of the exam to get the most accurate measurements. Most insurance companies don't pay for this portion of your eye exam. Contact your insurance carrier or our office for more details. |

On your visit to our office, you will be greeted by one of our reception desk staff members who will ask you to provide some additional required information, including your insurance cards and photo ID, and to verify your contact information. We will also take a quick photo which will be included in your medical record. Please wear or bring your current eye glasses and/or contact lenses to your appointment. Also, bring a list of the medications you normally take to be included in your medical record during your eye exam. If you are coming for a comprehensive eye exam, which necessarily includes dilation, please plan to allow adequate time for the exam. This may take 60-90 minutes. More time may be necessary if glasses are prescribed and need to be selected and fitted in the optical boutique. Additional time may also be necessary if diagnostic testing is required. Payment is due at the time of service for the portion of the exam fees not expected to be covered by your insurance (copays and deductibles). This amount is based on verified insurance benefits. In addition to cash or checks, we accept MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express credit or debit cards. |

Full Service Optical Department For your convenience, both locations have full service Optical Boutiques with large frame selections and experienced frame fitters to assist you with your eyeglass needs or to order contact lenses. We have an optical lab in the Lake City location with the ability to fill most glasses prescriptions within just a few business days. It is often possible to have a glasses prescription filled in 1 hour in the Lake City office. Some lenses, such as safety glasses, require a special order. The optical staff can advise you of the expected time for delivery. |
